Luca Barbero

Luca has a J.D. from Turin Law University (1990) and a Master in International Business from University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) 1990 -1992. In 1999 he successful sustained the first session of national examinations for the professional qualification as a Trademark Attorney and is duly registered as an Industrial Property Attorney (Trademarks section no. 869) and as an Agent with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) (registration no. 5639).

In 2000 Luca was appointed, amongst the first ones in Italy, as panelist for domain names and since 2004 he was also included in the roster of Arbitrator and Mediators of the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva (Luca is currently amongst the top seven panelist in the world as number of decisions rendered). In 2005 he was also appointed as panelist at the Czech Arbitration Court based in Prague for ADR disputes and serves in different panels including the Chamber of Commerce of Milan for matter related to .it domain names, the FORUM (Minneapolis) and the Global Intermediation (Washington).

After seven years’ experience at one of the largest Intellectual Property firms in Italy, on March 30th, 2000, Luca has established Studio Barbero S.p.A., a Turin based IP law firm specialized, since its inception, in the protection of intellectual property rights online. On September of the same year, Luca has also established BARBERO & ASSOCIATES Ltd, the London-based Registrar, directly accredited with ICANN and with many generic TLDs and country code TLDs, currently managing tens of thousands Corporate domain names worldwide for a number of our large multinational clients.

Luca is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars on Domain Names and Mediation/Arbitration issues and he is professor at the “Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property” (WIPO Worldwide Academy and the University of Turin), at the Master of Laws in International Trade Law (University of Turin and ITC ILO)

He was a founding member of ELSA (European Law Students Association) Italy in 1987 and of ELS in 1991 in Wien and has been a member of Rotary International since 1997. Luca is an active member of the Cyberspace Team MARQUES (European Association of Brand Owners), the Emerging Issues Committee of INTA (International Trade Mark Association), the Internet Committee of ECTA (European Communities Trade Mark Association).
